The big button item for financial services right now is regulatory compliance because of the banking royal commission. When I talk to industry execs, they tell me to forget about “analytics” and just focus on the data. Initially, I was a little surprised by this response. But it makes a lot of sense.
Everyone is focused on ‘big’ transformative projects. But in the process, they are neglecting the day to day processes. Time, energy and money are going into large transformation projects to replace ‘traditional’ with ‘new’.
Also, operational staff that once ensured day to day processes ran smoothly are now involved in the ‘big’ initiatives. So, we are building new and improved process and are letting existing processes deteriorate.
Effectiveness, efficiency and compliance are suffering in the process.
